An illustrated children’s book

For most all of October and at least half of November last year, I was illustrating, for the first time ever, spreads for a charming book of stories – ‘Ranikonye Katha: Dakshinaranjaner Jhuli Ghente Ultano Golper Jhuri’, reimagined by Satabdi Das, and published by The Antonym Collection under their imprint Jilipi, for young readers. The English edition, ‘Once Upon the Queens: Gender-upturned Tales from Bengal’, has been translated by Nadia Imam.

My first cover in Bangla: Pedrosa’s Nas Tuas Mãos

It occurs to me that the text on the Bangla books I designed are only accessible to those who read the language. So I will write a little more here about each of the books, starting with the first one – Amare dei tomar haate. It is a translation of Inês Pedrosa’s beautifully layered novel, Nas Tuas Mãos (1997) from Portuguese into Bangla by Rita Ray, and published by Jadavpur University Press.
